![]() ANTIQUES IN TETBURYStephen & Ines Muir, each with over thirty years experience in sourcing, buying and selling quality antiques, have had their major business based in London. We have been based in the well-known ANTIQUES TOWN of TETBURY in GLOUCESTERSHIRE for over ten years now, and have opened our own shop at 58 Long Street which showcases our theme of mixing good contemporary design with selected pieces from the 20th CENTURY, FRENCH DECORATIVE ANTIQUES, ART DECO, and sometimes even, the 19th Century, in fact, ANTIQUES FOR MODERN INTERIORS.Tetbury now has become known world-wide since The Prince of Wales has opened his HIGHGROVE shop in the town in April 2008. STOP PRESS - MAY 2010. We are very pleased to be part of the renaissance of the Old Chapel at 47 Long Street, which has been closed for too long, and was formerly known and loved as The Emporium. It has just re-opened as TETBURYINTERIORS.COM on 1st May 2010, and we are one of seven experienced and enthusiastic dealers in interesting decorative antiques who will bring this, the finest display space in Tetbury, back to life. As a taster, we show at the head of this page an example of our new stock. We specialise in more MODERN ANTIQUES, and normally, nothing older than ART DECO, but right up-to-date if the style and quality is good. Our major buying area is France, where we buy DECORATIVE pieces, but we source in Belgium & Holland as well. We spend a minimum of ten days per month abroad buying Antiques for our Tetbury operation, visiting specialised antique markets, brocantes, and private sources of supply of the style and quality of articles which we like, and which our wide range of customers, both trade and private, love to buy. When we can find them, we will buy good pieces of furniture designed by, for example, Charlotte Perriand, Charles & Ray Eames, Mart Stam, any BAUHAUS designer, Robin & Lucienne Day, Marcel Breuer or,in fact, anything now called RETRO ANTIQUES. We also have a love for such materials as Linen and Hemp(we always have a good selection of French sheets, some with hand-embroidered initials, in stock), Gilt-Bronze, Bakelite, Palm-Wood, Sheet Copper, Cast-Iron, Perspex, Lucite, mirror, chrome and nickel plate and of course, leather & suede. We are also attracted to such finishes as Faux-Marbre, Trompe L'Oeil, Crackle-Glaze, Grisaille and Limed wood. Please look at ALL our pages to get a good idea of our style and to see if you can find something you really, really want. NEW STOCK for EARLY JUNE 2010. Just arrived from France! A gorgeous selection of garden furniture, which are unusual in red, and all the more striking for it. The folding garden bench in red and white is priced at £170. The red and white folding table (97cm diameter) has JUST SOLD.The set of four folding garden chairs have also JUST SOLD. One of a pair of Rosewood Console Tables. We have had the old french polish professionally stripped and the entire tables have been re-polished. The veining on the tops is very good and "tigerish", and the detailing of the edges and joints is very fine. The tables are each an exact semi-circle, so could be adapted to make a very chic round dining table. Price REDUCED to £850 for the pair. A Pieff Mandarin Armchair to match the two-seater sofa shown elsewhere. As is usual with Pieff, the quality of the chrome & leather is excellent and the whole chair remains in excellent condition. JUST SOLD, and our customer said "each time I see the chair, I smile, and each time I sit in it, I sigh"! NEW STOCK for MID-JULY 2010. Just back from our Master Upholsterers: a wonderful and unusual pair of armchairs by G-Plan from the 1970s. The chairs are in moulded plywood with large chrome holding fixings, and have just been completely re-upholstered in a very interesting slubby freckled heavy tweed in a linen tone with contrasting charcoal grey piping & buttons. Price £950 for the pair. We have just acquired this lovely lucite/perspex lamp. It consists of a solid block of clear lucite measuring 30cm high X 16cm wide X 8cm deep, and topped with a chrome ball & stem, with the whole thing measuring 53cm to the top of the bulbholder. Price £165. A very interesting bent laminated beech armchair, believed to be by Bruno Mathsson(1907-1988)called the Eva. Very good condition, but a little wear on two of the webbing strips. JUST SOLD. We have been able to buy a further three pieces of furniture by Pieff of Worcester. These consist of a three seat sofa and two matching armchairs in the Alpha range, upholstered in dark brown leather. One cushion has a small tear that has been repaired, but they all ready to go. The prices are £650 for the three seat sofa, and £550 for the pair of chairs. (Photo is of the three-seater sofa - photos of single chairs will be posted shortly) We have also just acquired a Pieff Alpha Swivel chair - please enquire. A very rare dining table by Merrow Associates of Guildford. This company was founded by designer Richard Young, and engineers Perry Wyatt & Peter Weeks in 1965. Richard studied under the very influential Danish Designer, Ole Wanscher, and designed a number of iconic and beautiful pieces for Merrow, all of which are now design classics and highly collectable. This dining table usually has either a smoked glass or rosewood top, and it is most rare to find it with this lovely green marble top, which measures 1.25 metres in diameter. The table is in excellent condition, and has JUST SOLD. This lamp is most unusual and absolutely stunning! We acquired it from a very nice couple who had bought a Pieff Alpha leather suite, similar to the one we have for sale, some twenty-five years ago, and this lamp was a special offer with it. They have always believed it also to be by Pieff of Worcester, but we are not aware that Pieff ever manufactured lamps. It is, however, very worthy of them, as it is stylish, beautifully made, and iconic. An exceptional item. The perspex shade measures over 50cm in diameter, and the overall height is approx. 50cm. JUST SOLD. A coffee table by Belarti with a chrome frame and legs with tiled top in very attractive yellow/white/brown palette and very 70s design. A couple of tiles have minor cracks, but otherwise in very good condition. It measures 118cm X 57cm X 38cm high. PRICE £325. NEW STOCK for EARLY MAY 2010. Showing here is a photo of one of a pair of very interesting, and comfortable, cane-back chairs, dating from the 1930s. They are made of mahogany with interesting details, including ball and claw front feet. We have had new cushions made for them in a most attractive coarse linen with block-printed oakleaf pattern in dark brown to match the frame. Price is £450 for the pair. Now these are unusual! I'm not sure how much you know about pre-First World War Battleships, but here are paintings of two of them (hover the mouse over the first to see the second). I have not yet discovered the names, but they are of a type known as semi-dreadnoughts (I can explain if you are interested) and were commissioned into the French Navy around 1910. They are two of the very few warships internationally which were ever built with six funnels. Very well painted by an artist you obviously knew his warships, and even painted the signalling flags. Both oil on canvas, one is 63cm X 40cm, and the other 60cm X 41cm. Some shrapnel damage. Each priced at £225. Very fine and attractive gilded wood overmantel mirror with original bevelled glass. The Frame is of gilded oak leaves, and it measures 155cm high X 110cm wide, and is priced at £550. NEW STOCK for EARLY APRIL 2010. A very fine example of Pieff Design. A swivel armchair in dark brown leather in their Alpha range. We have other examples of Pieff Alpha elsewhere on the site, and this swivel complements them wonderfully. Large, comfortable, iconic, retro, what more do you need? Price £475. Always useful to have another chest of drawers. This probably dates from the 1940s and has been painted with a faux bois finish, which has cracked and split very attractively on the top. The chest measures 88cm wide X 48cm deep X 87cm high and is priced at £325. A good, sound, pair of original cast iron garden urns. They measure 42cm diameter X 33xm high and the base is 17.5cm square. JUST SOLD. We think this is fantastic, but not for shrinking violets! This is a very nicely shaped French Club Armchair with a wonderful line and very nice studding detail, but when we bought it, it was covered in damaged rexine, so we were very pleased to have it completely re-upholstered and covered in an exceptional cowskin which has been rolled to appear like ostrich skin: the effect is absolutely spectacular. JUST SOLD.An oil on canvas of an Art School Model. 1960s (from style of clothing) No signature, but very appealing. 92cm high X 71cm wide. JUST SOLD. A lovely 1960s Rosewood hinged-door Cabinet in Rosewood with chrome legs by Lyby Mobler of Denmark. The interior has two moveable shelves in rosewood veneer on one side and green baize on the other. Even the interior is in rosewood - fantastic quality! 90cm wide X 32cm deep X 106cm high. Price £875. Atop of this cabinet is a wacky 60s ceramic lamp glazed in dark blue with a wild orange stipe - very much of the period! Height to top of ceramic-approx. 57cm. Height to top of bulbholder - approx 87cm. Diameter - approx. 35cm. JUST SOLD. Next Page CLICK HERE. Back to top CLICK HERE |
