Stephen & Ines Muir, each with over thirty years experience in sourcing, buying and selling quality antiques, have had their major business based in London. We have been based in the well-known ANTIQUES TOWN of TETBURY in GLOUCESTERSHIRE for over ten years now, and have our own shop at 58 Long Street, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, GL8 8AQ, which showcases our theme of mixing good contemporary design with selected pieces from the 20th Century Antiques, French Decorative Antiques, Retro, and sometimes even, the 19th Century, in fact, Antiques for Modern Interiors.
Tetbury now has become known world-wide since The Prince of Wales has opened his Highgrove in the town in April 2008.
We specialise in more Modern Antiques and normally,nothing older than Art Deco, but right up-to-date if the style and quality is good. Our major buying area is France, where we buy Decorative and 20th Century pieces, but we source in Belgium & Holland as well. We spend a minimum of ten days per month abroad buying Antiques for our Tetbury operation, visiting specialised antique markets, brocantes, and private sources of supply of the style and quality of articles which we like, and which our wide range of customers, both trade and private, love to buy. When we can find them, we will buy good pieces of furniture designed by, for example, CHARLOTTE PERRIAND, CHARLES & RAY EAMES, MART STAM, any BAUHAUS designer, ROBIN & LUCIENNE DAY, MARCEL BREUER, HANS OLSEN, MARIO BELLINI or anything now called Retro Antiques. We also have a love for such materials as Linen and Hemp(we always have a good selection of French sheets, some with hand-embroidered initials, in stock), Gilt-Bronze, Bakelite, Palm-Wood, Sheet Copper, Cast-Iron, Perspex, Lucite, Mirror, chrome and nickel plate and leather & suede. Chrome & Glass Shelves by Merrow Associates of Guildford.

NEW STOCK for NOVEMBER 2011. A wonderful recent find, and the epitome of 20th Century Antiques! A superb set of shelves in chrome and with the original four smoked glass shelves by Merrow Associates of Guildford - one of the finest designers & manufacturers of the 1970s. The unit stands 140cm high X 94cm wide X 34cm deep, and is priced at £775.

Parker Knoll Wing Armchair re-upholstered in Lucienne Day-style fabric.

Back from our Master Upholsterers. This is an original Parker Knoll Wing Armchair in beech with lovely curving lines, arms, side & back. It is in very good condition, but we have had it completely re-upholstered in a very appropriate 1960s yellow/black/white fabric which is very much in the style of Lucienne Day. A very retro piece indeed! Stock number 7992. Price £265.

Metal Display Bird.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. What's the word for this? Jokey? Artisanal? Decorative? Different? Yes to all, we think. Quite a few similar pieces have flown (sorry) through our hands recently, and they normally emanated from South Africa, where the makers have a very good feel for the re-creation of animal & bird forms. In metal, quite often from re-cycled oil drums or similar, this piece is an excellent display item. 58cm long X 38cm high. Price £95.

1950s French Black wrought iron Standard Lamp, rewired.

A black wrought iron standard lamp, bound with brass wire, and very 1950s. Note the original multicolour, plastic strip lampshade!! It measures 1.52m high to the top of the lampholder, and is priced at £240,re-wired.

French Coffee table with bronze mounts & black opaline glass top.

NEW STOCK for OCTOBER 2011. A very attractive, and very French chic, coffee table with a black opaline glass top, and bronze mounts. It measures 88cm long X 46cm deep X 43cm high, and is priced at £345.

Pair of Pieff Mandarin Armchairs in Lustrous Dark Brown Leather.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, END-JANUARY 2012. We have had a lot of luck in being able to purchase another pair of armchairs by Pieff of Worcester in their range-topping design - the Mandarin. This pair is in an exceptionally lustrous very dark brown leather, and look fabulous! Usual quality you expect from Pieff Mandarin, and in excellent condition, with just a little crazing on the arm-pads. A class act! Stock Number 5851. Price £585 each.

Satin Birch Bookcase/Cupboard.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another interesting acquisition, with which we are very pleased. We have just bought this satin birch bookcase/cupboard from a very nice Couple who bought it in Camden Lock in London in the 1980s, and have kept it in wonderful condition since then. The back of the bookcase is lined with teak, and all the six shelves (faced with satin birch veneer on blockboard) are adjustable, and sit on turned wooden pegs.
The cupboard below is also lined with teak veneer & is opened with a super pair of white, very deco, pair of handles moulded as scallop shells. Dimensions - 107cm wide X 188cm high (the top lifts off the base) X 33cm deep at the cupboard. JUST SOLD.

Opaline Glass& Chrome Table Lamp

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another unusual find is this table lamp with a white opaline glass base and chrome stem, top & mount and, as you can see, a second switched bulb which illuminates the glass base. The glass base has been cast with a number of glass "bubbles" on the interior and which show as an interesting pattern. The main bulb is atop the chrome stem, and the lamp stands 72cm high to this point, and the glass has a diameter of 36cm. Will be rewired. Price £210 when completed.

Mandarin Design 2-seat sofa by Pieff of Worcester.

Showing here is the two-seat sofa from the Pieff Mandarin suite shown at the top of the page. The pair of chairs sold immediately, and the two seat sofa is still available. Dimensions - 165cm wide X 80cm deep X 70cm high. JUST SOLD.

Sculptural Treeroot.

A touch of the unusual! A large and very sculptural treeroot which has been inverted and mounted on a steel plate, and makes a fine display. It could, in all probability, be converted to add a glass top to make a unique, and very sculptural, coffee table. Price £240.

One of a Pair of 1930s Cane-back armchairs. New Cushions.

Showing here is a photo of one of a pair of very interesting, and comfortable, cane-back chairs, dating from the 1930s. They are made of mahogany with interesting details, including ball and claw front feet. We have had new cushions made for them in a most attractive coarse linen with block-printed oakleaf pattern in dark brown to match the frame. Price is £450 for the pair.

Brushed Brass finish coffeee table by "Masa". French. 1970s.

A very interesting & refined design of coffee table signed "Masa": it is of brushed brass-finish square tube, with elegantly rounded corner joints. Both upper & lower glasses have verre aglommerisé borders, indicating both that they are the original glasses and emphasising the quality of the design & execution. Dimensions are 97cm long X 52cm wide X 37cm high, and it is priced at £375.

Pestle & Mortar in hard white porcelain.

A most unusual French Pestle & Mortar in hard porcelain. The mortar bowl measures 26cm diameter X 14cm high, and the Pestle is 26cm long. The whole object is in very good condition and very heavy. Price £145.

Val St Lambert Glass dish.

NEW STOCK for END-NOVEMBER 2011. One of two recent acquisitions of Val St Lambert Glass: This first is in a colour I can only call lilac....Very luminous, very attractive and with lovely movement in the glass. Strictly-speaking the shape is a three-lobed epitrochoid, as were the internal workings of the Wankel engine, but you do not need to know that. The dish measures 33cm, and has JUST SOLD.

One of two coffee tables in the Mandarin range by Pieff of Worcester.

NEW STOCK for NOVEMBER 2011. We are still very lucky to be able to source further pieces from the iconic "Mandarin" range by Pieff of Worcester, and this is just one of two square coffee tables that we have just bought. This is the larger of the two, has its original clear glass top, measuring 91cm X 91cm, and it sits on the classical Pieff Mandarin base at an overall height of 37cm. RESERVED. The second Mandarin coffee table is shown elsewhere on the site. These tables are en suite with the Mandarin sofas shown elsewhere on the site.

Pair of Cream Toleware Lamps.

NEW STOCK for END-NOVEMBER 2011. Rather off the beaten track for us, but we are very pleased to have found this pair of hand-decorated table lamps in cream toleware. They would look very good in a traditional setting or in one of our more modern ones - in fact, they currently look very good on a piece of our rosewood funiture! Just rewired & with new brass bulb-holders. Height to top of bulb-holder is 53cm. JUST SOLD.

Brass Pineapple-shape Table Lamp with Shade.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. An interesting single table lamp in brass with a pineapple-style base with leaves, sitting on a square formalised base 11cm X 11cm, and with inner gold-finish to the lampshade. The overall height is 49cm, without the shade, and 74cm to top of the shade. JUST SOLD.

Val St Lambert Glass dish.

NEW STOCK for END-NOVEMBER 2011. The second of our recent purchases of a piece of Belgian glass by Val St Lambert, and another epitrochoid-shaped glass dish. This is slightly smaller at 31cm at its widest, and the colour is a good lime. JUST SOLD.

Rosewood Cabinet by Lyby Mobler of Denmark.

A lovely 1960s Rosewood hinged-door Cabinet in Rosewood with chrome legs by Lyby Mobler of Denmark.The quality of the workmanship is exemplified if you look and see that the cabinet maker has used "book matched" veneers on the doors. The interior has two moveable shelves in rosewood veneer on one side and green baize on the other. Even the interior is in rosewood - fantastic quality! 90cm wide X 32cm deep X 106cm high. Price £875.

Wisteria Design twin-lamp wall bracket.

A most interesting twin-lamp wall-bracket in the form of a (very realistic) wisteria branch. The finish is gold & silver, and it measures 95cm wide X 90cm high X 20cm deep. JUST SOLD.

French Acanthus-shape mirror.

Another example of the interesting mirrors we are finding - this is French, and as usual, is pierced to show a pair of chrome "buttons" on the front which hold the hooks at the back to which the fabric rope is attached. The shape is unusual, and looks very much like an Acanthus, with additional cuts and bevels. Maximum height is 59cm X 41cm wide. Price £ 110.

Glass Vase by Crystallerie de Champagne, Bayel, France.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another very attractive fluted glass flower vase, stamped Bayel. The town in France, to the east of Troyes, was a major maker of high quality glassware, and the major manufacturer went under the name of Crystallerie de Champagne - a suitably aristocratic title. The glass here shown stands 32cm high and is of an oval form at the mouth, which is 22cm at the widest. Good condition & very useful. Price £135.

Pair of Black & Gold Glazed Pottery Lamps.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, END-JANUARY 2012. One of a pair of very interesting black & gold Glazed pottery lamps. The glaze has an interesting texture in matt & shiny finish. Each has a rectangular shade in beige checker-board linen. Height to top of shade 70cm. Max width of urn 35cm. UK wired. Price £325 for the pair.

1950s French Globe.

NEW STOCK for END-OCTOBER 2011. Unusually, this French 1950s Globe shows the world as the rest of us know it, without any obvious exaggeration. The globe is constructed with a paper maché base, and is in pretty good condition, although there are some small pieces missing around Antarctica(so, what's new), and there are one or two areas where the original cellophane has gone missing. The globe sits, and rotates, on its contemporary black metal base and support. We show two views of the globe - Africa & Australia. Maximum height is 45cm, and the base is 33cm wide. JUST SOLD.
