![]() ANTIQUES IN TETBURYStephen & Ines Muir, each now with over thirty five years experience in sourcing, buying and selling quality antiques, have had their major business based in London. We have been based in the well-known ANTIQUES TOWN of TETBURY in the glorious COTSWOLDS for over ten years now, and have our own shop at 58 Long Street, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, GL8 8AQ, which showcases our theme of mixing good contemporary design with selected pieces from the 20th Century Antiques, French Decorative Antiques, Retro, and sometimes even, the 19th Century, in fact, Antiques for Modern Interiors. Our phone number in the shop is +44(0)1666504522, and mobile number is +44(0)7836758416. When we are on a buying trip, we close the shop, so if you are planning a visit to see us specially, it is best to contact us in advance to make sure we are here. The rest of the time the shop is open every day, and our hours are 10.00-17.30 from monday to saturday, and 11.00-17.30 on sunday, and at other times, by appointment. Tetbury now has become known world-wide since The Prince of Wales has opened his Highgrove Shop in this iconic Cotswold town in April 2008. We specialise in more Modern Antiques and normally, nothing older than Art Deco, but right up-to-date if the style and quality is good. Our major buying area is France, where we buy Decorative and 20th Century pieces, but we source in Belgium & Holland as well. We spend a minimum of ten days per month abroad buying Antiques for our Tetbury operation, visiting specialised antique markets, brocantes, and private sources of supply of the style and quality of articles which we like, and which our wide range of customers, both trade and private, love to buy. When we can find them, we will buy good pieces of furniture designed by, for example, CHARLOTTE PERRIAND, CHARLES & RAY EAMES, MART STAM, any BAUHAUS designer, ROBIN & LUCIENNE DAY, MARCEL BREUER, HANS OLSEN, MARIO BELLINI or anything now called Retro Antiques. We also have a love for such materials as Linen and Hemp(we always have a good selection of French sheets, some with hand-embroidered initials, in stock), Gilt-Bronze, Bakelite, Palm-Wood, Sheet Copper, Cast-Iron, Perspex, Lucite, Mirror, chrome and nickel plate and leather & suede. We are also attracted to such finishes as Faux-Marbre, Trompe L'Oeil, Crackle-Glaze, Grisaille and Limed wood. Please look at ALL our pages to get a good idea of our style and to see if you can find something you really, really want. ![]() Pair of Chrome & Leather Armchairs by Martin VisserNEW STOCK for NEW YEAR 2013. As you will see above, we have just bought an exceptional suite of furniture by that fabulous Dutch Designer, Martin Visser(1922-2009).This design dates from 1969, and it was created for the first World Fair in Japan, at Osaka 1970. Accordingly, these armchairs are named the "Osaka 1" (the two-seat sofa shown elsewhere is named "Osaka 2", and the Swivel seat is called the "Tanabe")The entire suite is in good vintage condition, albeit with some creases & darkening of the leather. Each chair measures 68cm wide X 80cm high X 83cm deep. JUST SOLD.![]() Pieff Sideboard in Black Ash with Chrome Legs.NEW STOCK for FEBRUARY 2013. Unusual still to be able to find any good quality items of furniture in Black Ash, especially unusual is this item by the iconic company of Pieff of Worcester, and dating from the 1970s. This sideboard has two sliding doors which, when pushed aside, cover a cupboard & shelf each side, and show a central bank of four drawers with aluminium strip handles. The whole sits on a base in Pieff's signature design of bent tubular steel. Very good condition and very stylish. It measures 186cm wide X 45cm deep X 70cm high, and is priced at £725.![]() Enamelled Steel & Brass Etagere.NEW STOCK for APRIL 2013. Very Willy Rizzo, slightly Zevi. An interestingly-design of six-shelf Etagere, with elements of Willy Rizzo & of Zevi. This unit is in pale coffee-coloured stove enamelled steel, with cast brass corners & frames for the glass shelves. It is in overall very good condition, with no damage to the enamel, some small rust spots through the brass plate, and the odd chip to one or two of the glass shelves. Very chic, and we guess, from the 1970s, again. It measures 175cm high X 75cm wide X 36cm deep, and is priced at £575.![]() An oval G-Plan coffee table in their Astra Range.NEW STOCK for April 2013. The Astra coffee table by G-Plan is an excellent design, being very light & "Scandinavian". The round design is fairly prevalent, but the oval is less so. We think this is in teak, as was usual, but it has been stained darker at some stage, and now more closely resembles a rosewood finish. Original glass, we think. The table measures 123cm long X 67cm wide X 42cm high, and is priced at £175.![]() 1970s Perspex SofaNEW STOCK for APRIL 2013. An interesting & rare small, two-seat sofa in smoked & clear perspex with chrome fitting, and cushions re-upholstered in Alcantara-style material. The sofa is very small, and, neat & is surprisingly robust. Note the interesting detail of the arms, which allow them to be used as storage for books or magazines. The sofa measures only 138cm wide X 65cm high X 90cm deep, and is priced at £425.![]() French Black & Gilt Wall Brackets in the style of Poillerat.A fine pair of wrought iron wall brackets in black & gilt. The design, especially the criss-cross ribbon centre, is very much in the style of the finest of the French metalworkers, Gilbert Poillerat. These date from the 1920s, and apparently came from a grand Parisian Mansion. They still have their original wiring & wood-insulated (!) SES bulbholders. They measure 60cm high X 38cm wide X 19cm deep, and are priced at £465 for the pair.![]() Opaline Glass& Chrome Table LampAnother unusual find is this table lamp with a white opaline glass base and chrome stem, top & mount and, as you can see, a second switched bulb which illuminates the glass base. The glass base has been cast with a number of glass "bubbles" on the interior and which show as an interesting pattern. The main bulb is atop the chrome stem, and the lamp stands 72cm high to this point, and the glass has a diameter of 36cm. Now rewired. Price £210.![]() Set of Six (Four showing here) Dining Chairs by Gordon Russell of Broadway, re-upholstered.This picture shows four of the set of six dining chairs by Gordon Russell of Broadway, and are in lovely condition, having just been re-upholstered in a lovely dark grey/brown nubbed tweed fabric. We particularly like the moulded plywood seats and bases, which are very reminiscent of the iconic Eames Lounger. Price - £725 for the six. We also have a matching pair of carver chairs awaiting re-upholstery - please enquire.![]() French Standard Lamp with triple bulbs and very wacky shades!A French, 1950s, Standard lamp in iron with a spiral brass strip decoration and three brass lamp holders, but the real surprise is the three very wacky lamp shades in different colours of plastic. Height to top of the shades is 185cm and it has a maximum width of 60cm, with the tripod base measuring 50cm. JUST SOLD.![]() Pieff Gamma Swivel Armchair in Black Leather (Second Available)NEW STOCK for APRIL 2013. A large set of moulded china oyster plates in the sought-after cream glaze by the factory of Gien in Central France. Pressed underglaze mark. Price for the set of fifteen is £185.![]() Booklover's Desk, French, in Oak & Oak Veneer, 1950s.A most interesting & unusual small desk in oak veneer, edged with oak. It has a hinged extension leaf to one side, which sits behind, and is held shut by, the side-mounted bookrack. This bookrack hinges open, to allow the extension leaf to be lifted & fixed in position, and then the bookrack can be swung back below the extension leaf - sounds complicated, and it takes longer to describe than to implement. On this side of the desk, too is a drawer and a drop flap cupboard with a sliding tray, and on the other side is a bookcase with removable shelf. As I say, very unusual, very attractive and very practical-a real booklover's desk. The maximum width with the drop-leaf open is 146cm, and 110cm with the drop-leaf closed. The desk is 60cm deep X 78cm high. JUST SOLD.![]() Chrome & Glass Serving Trolley by Miller Design Associates (MDA)An interesting and useful Serving Trolley by Miller Design Associates, circa 1970. JUST SOLD.![]() Parker-Knoll Armchair in Beech, and re-upholstered in a Lucienne Day-period fabric.A very finely-worked design of high-back Armchair by Parker-Knoll. When we bought it, the upholstery was too bad to save, and we have had it re-upholstered in a fabric in yellow & black, which is very much in the style of Lucienne Day, and whose colours suit the pale beech of the frame. JUST SOLD.![]() Rosewood Cabinet by Lyby Mobler of Denmark.A lovely 1960s Rosewood hinged-door Cabinet in Rosewood with chrome legs by Lyby Mobler of Denmark. The quality of the workmanship is exemplified if you look and see that the cabinet maker has used "book matched" veneers on the doors. JUST SOLD.![]() French Acanthus-shape mirror.Another example of the interesting mirrors we are finding - this is French, and as usual, is pierced to show a pair of chrome "buttons" on the front which hold the hooks at the back to which the fabric rope is attached. The shape is unusual, and looks very much like an Acanthus, with additional cuts and bevels. Maximum height is 59cm X 41cm wide. Price £ 110.![]() Two-seat Sofa "Osaka 2" by Martin VisserNEW STOCK for NEW YEAR 2013.The final part of this iconic suite by Martin Visser of Holland designed for the World Fair in Osaka, Japan, 1970. Some creasing & darkening of the leather. The overall colour of the leather of the suite is a super orange, and an interesting detail is that all the upholstery buttons run in a strip down each side of each seat cushion, so that they do not stick into one's back. This design was first manufactured in 1969 by Tecno in Italy, but most were manufactured to the same very high standard by Spectrum of Holland. The sofa measures 68cm high X 150cm wide X 83cm deep.
