Stephen & Ines Muir, each with over thirty five years experience in sourcing, buying and selling quality antiques, have had their major business based in London. We have been based in the well-known ANTIQUES TOWN of TETBURY in GLOUCESTERSHIRE for over ten years now, and have our own shop at 58 Long Street, Tetbury, Gloucestershire, GL8 8AQ, which showcases our theme of mixing good contemporary design with selected pieces from the 20th Century Antiques, French Decorative Antiques, Retro, and sometimes even, the 19th Century, in fact, Antiques for Modern Interiors.
Tetbury now has become known world-wide since The Prince of Wales has opened his Highgrove Shop in the town in April 2008.
We specialise in more Modern Antiques and normally,nothing older than Art Deco, but right up-to-date if the style and quality is good. Our major buying area is France, where we buy Decorative and 20th Century pieces, but we source in Belgium & Holland as well. We spend a minimum of ten days per month abroad buying Antiques for our Tetbury operation, visiting specialised antique markets, brocantes, and private sources of supply of the style and quality of articles which we like, and which our wide range of customers, both trade and private, love to buy. When we can find them, we will buy good pieces of furniture designed by, for example, CHARLOTTE PERRIAND, CHARLES & RAY EAMES, MART STAM, any BAUHAUS designer, ROBIN & LUCIENNE DAY, MARCEL BREUER, HANS OLSEN, MARIO BELLINI or anything now called Retro Antiques. We also have a love for such materials as Linen and Hemp(we always have a good selection of French sheets, some with hand-embroidered initials, in stock), Gilt-Bronze, Bakelite, Palm-Wood, Sheet Copper, Cast-Iron, Perspex, Lucite, Mirror, chrome and nickel plate and leather & suede. Chrome & Glass Shelves by Merrow Associates of Guildford.

NEW STOCK for NOVEMBER 2011. A wonderful recent find, and the epitome of 20th Century Antiques! A superb set of shelves in chrome and with the original four smoked glass shelves by Merrow Associates of Guildford - one of the finest designers & manufacturers of the 1970s. The unit stands 140cm high X 94cm wide X 34cm deep, and is priced at £775.

Parker Knoll Wing Armchair re-upholstered in Lucienne Day-style fabric.

Back from our Master Upholsterers. This is an original Parker Knoll Wing Armchair in beech with lovely curving lines, arms, side & back. It is in very good condition, but we have had it completely re-upholstered in a very appropriate 1960s yellow/black/white fabric which is very much in the style of Lucienne Day. A very retro piece indeed! Stock number 7992. Price £265.

Wonderful Quality Chrome and Oxblood Leather Sofa.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, FEBRUARY 2012. Another extremely interesting, and wonderful quality, chrome & leather sofa. We have had this model before, but we have still to ascertain the manufacturer - it is definitely not by Pieff, as we have checked with the Bates family. It is, though, as good as Pieff and presents very well in its oxblood leather and oval chrome frame. One or two pieces of damage to the leather on the top. Dimensions are 139cm wide X 84cm deep X 80cm high, and it is priced at £850.

1950s French Black wrought iron Standard Lamp, rewired.

A black wrought iron standard lamp, bound with brass wire, and very 1950s. Note the original multicolour, plastic strip lampshade!! It measures 1.52m high to the top of the lampholder, and is priced at £240,re-wired.

French Coffee table with bronze mounts & black opaline glass top.

NEW STOCK for OCTOBER 2011. A very attractive, and very French chic, coffee table with a black opaline glass top, and bronze mounts. It measures 88cm long X 46cm deep X 43cm high, and is priced at £345.

Pair of Pieff Mandarin Armchairs in Lustrous Dark Brown Leather.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, END-JANUARY 2012. We have had a lot of luck in being able to purchase another pair of armchairs by Pieff of Worcester in their range-topping design - the Mandarin. This pair is in an exceptionally lustrous very dark brown leather, and look fabulous! Usual quality you expect from Pieff Mandarin, and in excellent condition, with just a little crazing on the arm-pads. A class act! Stock Number 5851. JUST SOLD.

Satin Birch Bookcase/Cupboard.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another interesting acquisition, with which we are very pleased. We have just bought this satin birch bookcase/cupboard from a very nice Couple who bought it in Camden Lock in London in the 1980s, and have kept it in wonderful condition since then. The back of the bookcase is lined with teak, and all the six shelves (faced with satin birch veneer on blockboard) are adjustable, and sit on turned wooden pegs.
The cupboard below is also lined with teak veneer & is opened with a super pair of white, very deco, pair of handles moulded as scallop shells. Dimensions - 107cm wide X 188cm high (the top lifts off the base) X 33cm deep at the cupboard. JUST SOLD.

Opaline Glass& Chrome Table Lamp

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another unusual find is this table lamp with a white opaline glass base and chrome stem, top & mount and, as you can see, a second switched bulb which illuminates the glass base. The glass base has been cast with a number of glass "bubbles" on the interior and which show as an interesting pattern. The main bulb is atop the chrome stem, and the lamp stands 72cm high to this point, and the glass has a diameter of 36cm. Will be rewired. Price £210 when completed.

Set of Six (Four showing here) Dining Chairs by Gordon Russell of Broadway, re-upholstered.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, MARCH 2012. This picture shows four of the set of six dining chairs illustrated at the top of this Home Page. The chairs are by Gordon Russell of Broadway, and are in lovely condition, having just been re-upholstered in a lovely dark grey/brown nubbed tweed fabric. We particularly like the bent plywood seat and back bases, which are very reminiscent of the iconic Eames Lounger. Price - £725 for the six. We also have a matching pair of carver chairs awaiting re-upholstery - please enquire.

Pair of Art Deco Night Tables with Marble Tops.

NEW STOCK for Late-APRIL 2012. Just bought in France is this very attractive & practical pair of Art Deco Night Tables. The lighter wood is satinwood, and the darker, oak. The marble tops are very striking, with large patches of white colour, and the handles are pure Deco. 47cm wide(each) X 34cm deep X 68cm high. Price £520 for the pair.

Pair of French Bridge Chairs in Beech with Red Vinyl Upholstery.

NEW STOCK for END-MARCH 2012.A very attractive pair of French Carver, or Bridge, chairs in beech, with red vinyl upholstery. The vinyl itself is in good condition without wear, and has only one minor blemish. The springs to the seats, however, are getting a bit unruly, as can been seen in the pictures, and the seats, therefore, would benefit from attention by a sympathetic restorer. Circa 1950s, and still very comfortable. Price £150 for the pair.

Small coffee table in the style of Jean Prouvé.

NEW STOCK for END-MARCH 2012. A very neat and attractive small coffee table in the style associated with Jean Prouvé from the late 1950s/ early 1960s. Note the very pared-down form of the cast metal legs, and the way the glass top is fixed through by brass screws. Very good condition throughout. The table measures 72cm long X 45cm wide X 40cm high and is priced at £190.

Yellow Pottery Lidded Vase or Container.

NEW STOCK for END-MARCH 2012. No provenance or factory marks for this piece, but it is French, glazed in a lovely colour, normally called Chinese Imperial Yellow. We guess it dates from the 1950s, and is a very attractive item. It measures 36cm high to the top of the finial X 19cm wide & is priced at £95.

Chrome & Glass Serving Trolley by Miller Design Associates (MDA)

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, MARCH 2012. An interesting and useful Serving Trolley by Miller Design Associates, circa 1970. This example has two glass shelves (rather than a lower wooden shelf)and as a result, looks much lighter & more elegant. In very good condition and beautifully looked-after (we bought it from the owners who had bought it new). 70cm long X 42cm deep X 66cm high. Price &275.

One of two coffee tables in the Mandarin range by Pieff of Worcester.

NEW STOCK for NOVEMBER 2011. We are still very lucky to be able to source further pieces from the iconic "Mandarin" range by Pieff of Worcester, and this is just one of two square coffee tables that we have just bought. This is the larger of the two, has its original clear glass top, measuring 91cm X 91cm, and it sits on the classical Pieff Mandarin base at an overall height of 37cm. Price £650. The second Mandarin coffee table, with a smoked glass top, is shown elsewhere on the site, priced at £550. These tables are en suite with the Mandarin sofas shown elsewhere on the site.

Classic Lamp Base in Cast Brass & black lacquer.

NEW STOCK for LATE-APRIL 2012. A fine and classic lamp base in heavy cast brass with black lacquer vase. Certainly French and in the Louis XVIII style, although most likely from the 1930s/50s. Very good condition, and will be re-wired with replica silk-covered three-core twist cable. 47cm to top of bulb-holder, and 18cm diameter base. Price £210, including rewiring.

Brass Pineapple-shape Table Lamp with Shade.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. An interesting single table lamp in brass with a pineapple-style base with leaves, sitting on a square formalised base 11cm X 11cm, and with inner gold-finish to the lampshade. The overall height is 49cm, without the shade, and 74cm to top of the shade. JUST SOLD.

Tile Top Coffee Table in the style of Belarti.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, MARCH 2012. A very interesting coffee table with a top consisting of 21 ceramic tiles in very dark brown with three motifs representing dandelion clocks. The top sits on a pair of chrome tube legs with chrome splayed feet, and is very much in the style of Belarti, and we believe it dates from the 1970s. It measures 107cm long X 46cm deep X 41cm high, and is priced at £245.

Rosewood Cabinet by Lyby Mobler of Denmark.

A lovely 1960s Rosewood hinged-door Cabinet in Rosewood with chrome legs by Lyby Mobler of Denmark.The quality of the workmanship is exemplified if you look and see that the cabinet maker has used "book matched" veneers on the doors. The interior has two moveable shelves in rosewood veneer on one side and green baize on the other. Even the interior is in rosewood - fantastic quality! 90cm wide X 32cm deep X 106cm high. Price £875.

Double-Mirror Frame from Belgium in clear glass.

NEW STOCK for END-APRIL 2012. A most unusual Double Frame Mirror in clear mirror of Belgian Design and manufacture. With the double frame, the light is reflected everywhere, and the effect is most dramatic. Very good condition, and with brass corners to all eight angles. Measures 90cm high X 68cm wide. JUST SOLD.

French Acanthus-shape mirror.

Another example of the interesting mirrors we are finding - this is French, and as usual, is pierced to show a pair of chrome "buttons" on the front which hold the hooks at the back to which the fabric rope is attached. The shape is unusual, and looks very much like an Acanthus, with additional cuts and bevels. Maximum height is 59cm X 41cm wide. Price £ 110.

Glass Vase by Crystallerie de Champagne, Bayel, France.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, JANUARY 2012. Another very attractive fluted glass flower vase, stamped Bayel. The town in France, to the east of Troyes, was a major maker of high quality glassware, and the major manufacturer went under the name of Crystallerie de Champagne - a suitably aristocratic title. The glass here shown stands 32cm high and is of an oval form at the mouth, which is 22cm at the widest. Good condition & very useful. JUST SOLD.

Pair of Black & Gold Glazed Pottery Lamps.

NEW STOCK for NEW YEAR, END-JANUARY 2012. One of a pair of very interesting black & gold Glazed pottery lamps. The glaze has an interesting texture in matt & shiny finish. Each has a rectangular shade in beige checker-board linen. Height to top of shade 70cm. Max width of urn 35cm. UK wired. Price £325 for the pair.

Pair of French Aluminium Stocking Displays by Heliot.

NEW STOCK for END-MARCH 2012. Now, these are good for a laugh! Not quite Folies Bergeres, but very wacky, nonetheless. A pair of well-crafted aluminium stocking display trees. Full-size but very neat. JUST SOLD.
